We are pleased to invite national and regional policy experts and decision-makers to the session „Smart Specialisation: trans-regional innovation and investment opportunities for EU regions and SMEs“ organised within the frame of „European Week of Regions and Cities 2019“ in Brussels.
Session is organized by close cooperation of „GoSmart“ project team and „Ecorys“– one of the implementers of „ReConfirm“ initiative. „GoSmart BSR“ project aims to increase capacity of innovation actors (innovation intermediaries, authorities, research institutions, enterprises) to apply smart specialisation approach by effective transregional cooperation between industry, R&D sector and authorities. The main expected results of GoSmart BSR project are a functioning and sustainable Transnational Innovation Brokerage System (TIBS) and SMEs’ Joint Smart Strategies implemented across partner regions. TIBS services allow groups of SMEs to work with innovation partners in order to develop joined strategies, increase internationalisation and get stronger position in European/global value chains. „ReConfirm“ is designed to assist European regions and industrial stakeholders in implementing their action plan under the Smart Specialisation Platform for Industrial Modernisation (S3P-Industry). It focuses on facilitating the development of interregional investment projects in the broader perspective, concentrating on industrial modernisation with bottom-up approach, which is implemented through interregional cooperation, cluster participation and industry involvement.
Session will provide an insight on interregional cooperation efforts, joint innovation and investment opportunities in the framework of S3 strategies around the Baltic Sea Region. Participants will learn about successful practices and tools available to get the most from involvement in trans-regional activities and European/global value chains. European Commission’s priorities and actions towards smart specialisation will also be discussed during the session. Key speakers will be Wieslaw Urban from Bialystok University of Technology, Kathleen D’Hondt from Flemish Government and Kristiina Jokelainen from Regional Council of Lapland. Session will end with the panel discussion. After session all interested participants are welcome to Agora Village to share their impressions with experts and other participants.
The session aims to bring together policy and decision-makers, representatives of private companies and clusters, local/regional/national associations and governments, experts and practitioners in the field of European regional and urban policy, NGOs and academia to learn about tools and examples of successful cooperation of regional industries and SMEs to become more innovative and competitive.
