Welcome to an interesting session about “Building a resilient innovation ecosystem for the Baltic Sea Region” organised within the frame of European Week of Regions and Cities 2021 in Brussels, October 12, 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. The session is organised by the GoSmart&Excel BSR project who focuses on enhancing the capacity of innovation actors in the Baltic Sea Region (and beyond) to practically and jointly apply the Smart Specialisation Strategy approach.
Proactive work and joint solutions are a key to resilience
The development and improvement for the innovation ecosystem is crucial for the economic resilience of the regions and countries. Especially in COVID-19 times, when raising the trust among companies is necessary, when digitalisation gaps around the BSR are large, and when internationalisation is limited due to practical barriers.
Dialog among innovation partners across the borders needs to be promoted, and it must be done via reliable network of brokers. We should stop exporting resources without added value, but we should develop joint innovation in most promising areas of the macro-region. The vision of being a competitive macro-region has to be reached by proactive work and tested solutions.
GoSmart&Excel BSR project team, standing behind this session, have already elaborated a methodology to identify the most promising innovation areas of the whole BSR, and by October 2021, the actual strategy will be close to the final. Proactive work and joint solutions is a key to resilience. Stakeholders from the Baltic Sea Region have joined forces to develop practical actions to support innovation for industry in the macro-region. This is key to building a competitive and resilient Europe.
The session will provide insights on how to build a resilient innovation ecosystem. The Transnational Smart Specialisation Strategy (Trans-S3) for the BSR and practical actions to implement joint innovation – such as the Transnational Innovation Brokerage System – will be presented. Opportunities for organisations to adopt this approach and join the network, and the benefits involved, will be shared.
